SELF-LIGATING BRACES Self-Ligating braces are a new type of braces that eliminate the need for elastic ties. These braces either use doors or a clip-like mechanism to hold the wire in place. Avoiding the elastic ties that are used in conventional braces to hold the wire improves oral hygiene, and reduces friction between the braces and the wires. This allows for the use of very low forces which may improve patient comfort, reduce the frequency of the initial visits, and slightly decrease the time required for treatment.
